The Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded when John Winthrop came with 1,000 Puritans in 1630. The Puritans did not wish to leave the Church of England, but they did want to change some of its practices. Those who lived in this colony had to follow strict religious ways. You were not allowed to practice your own faith. Eventually the Bay Colony absorbed many of the settlements to form what was know as the British Colony of Massachusetts.
